Murals by

Mary Fields

Me painting murals

Having drawn and painted since childhood, Mary Fields studied art and film at the University of Washington, but chose not to pursue the art gallery world. After short stints as a costume designer for theatre, a puppet-making instructor, a maker of painted jewelry, and a rather long run as a painter of custom furniture and objects, she decided to paint murals for interiors.

Beginning with a Venetian entryway mural for the house of a friend (photo in the gallery) she soon teamed up with another mural painter, the late Peter Kroeger, and together they worked on many projects in Salzburg, Innsbrook, Vienna, and Munich. (As those murals were not her designs nor solely executed, they are not among the photos.) Later she began working for a select few interior designers, as well as independently, to design and execute murals for private and commercial clients.

Painting in many styles, from Pompeiian, to Neoclassical, to Trompe l’oeil, to Constructivism, to Landscape, to Chinoiserie and more, she loves to create designs to suit the tastes and needs of the client. Generally preferring to paint a stylized version of the natural world—animals, plants, and people-- over architecture, you will see a lot of flowering trees, birds, monkeys, foxes, and the like. Below is varied sampling of her work. Many of her murals are in private homes, from New York to California to Seattle, while others are in restaurants, hotels, theaters, and the first class lounges of international airports.
